DRX9000 Spinal Decompression
DRX9000 Spinal Decompression FAQ
Non-surgical DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy may be exactly what you need to stop chronic back and leg pain. Our doctors at Westport Chiropractic and Acupuncture have the answers to frequently asked questions from patients seeking back pain relief.
What is DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy?
DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy is a tool your chiropractor can use to relieve pressure on pinched nerves caused by slipped or herniated discs without surgical intervention. It involves gently stretching the spine on a motorized, computer-controlled traction table to elongate the spine so herniated, degenerated, dehydrated, bulging, or otherwise-injured discs gradually return to their proper places in the spine.
How does DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy work?
Our chiropractor uses DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy to create negative intradiscal pressure. Lowering the pressure on your spine allows the cushioning discs between the vertebrae of your spine to retract and reposition themselves. The negative pressure on your spine also helps oxygen and nutrients flow to your spine through the capillaries surrounding it.
Is chiropractic DRX9000 Spinal Decompression one-and-done the way surgery is?
You will need several DRX9000 Spinal Decompression sessions with your chiropractor to help your discs heal. But you won't have to go through the trauma of hospitalization. There's also no risk of surgical infections, because there is no surgery. You only have to devote about 20 to 30 minutes for each treatment, which can be scheduled at your convenience with our chiropractor, and you are highly likely to start feeling better almost immediately.
What's it like to get DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy?
During DRX9000 Spinal Decompression therapy, patients are asked to lie down on a motorized table, the lower half of which can move. A harness is placed around the hips, and the lower part of the table is moved back and forth while the top half of the table is stationary in a gentle cycle of decompression and relaxation of the spine.
Does DRX9000 Spinal Decompression hurt?
All patients feel gentle pressure during their DRX9000 Spinal Decompression treatments, but pain is rare. Your pain levels should be reduced after even one treatment.
MRI Shows 3 Disc Herniations and Stenosis Disappear
Patient Testimonial
Rose Marie S.
"It was April 2011, and I had been exercising pretty aggressively—Zumba, weight training, Pilates, and more—for 2 to 3 hours a day. Then I did something, my hip gave out, and subsequently my back became intolerably painful. The worst was the sciatica down both legs, centered in each buttock.
I went for an MRI and found that I had three serious herniated discs. I understood the sciatica came from the herniated discs pressing on both the right and left nerves in my back. I could not sleep past 3 a.m., as the pain was so severe. No matter how I turned, it was too painful. I often got up to take a hot bath or would lie on the floor with my legs up the wall just to get some relief.
I could not walk very far and would almost pass out from the pain at the grocery store. I could not carry even the lightest purse. Of course, I had no ability to exercise, and I feared I would not be able to be active again. I felt so old all of a sudden.
Almost everyone tried to convince me to go for surgery. The recommendations were for hip surgery as well as spinal surgery, and my knees were bad, too. It seemed I had to replace the entire bottom half of myself!
My husband saw an ad showing Dr. Guerin demonstrating the use of the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression system, and I thought, " What do I have to lose? Dr. Guerin cautiously said I was a candidate, even though I had a long road to recovery. He suggested we try treating the herniated discs first, and he went one by one over the course of two months.
After a short time, the pain began to lessen, and we would move on to another disc. I could feel we were making progress and was optimistic. The sciatic pain disappeared, and I could sleep through the night, stand up straight once again, and no longer fear that my legs would give out.
Even though I knew I had made vast improvements and the DRX9000 had worked, I wanted to see what the MRI would show. I actually expected to see that I still had a disc herniation despite feeling relief. I was amazed when the MRI stated: “Previously described L2/L3, L5/S1, and L4/L5… not evident on present study.” Proof it actually did work—the three discs were no longer herniated!"
Dr. Guerin has brought the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression system to Westport, CT. The DRX9000 is a non-surgical treatment for chronic low back pain, leg pain, disc pain, and hip pain, as well as numbness, tingling, and weakness. It is a state-of-the-art technology used to treat degenerative disc disease, bulging or herniated discs, stenosis, arthritis, and facet syndrome.
The DRX9000 gently and pleasantly decompresses the discs in the spine, alleviating pressure on painful nerves. The protocol for each condition and patient is highly personalized. The process of decompression permits discs to reposition themselves and also allows fluid to return to the damaged areas so that they become healthy and pain-free again.
Patients are extremely comfortable during treatments and can listen to soft music, drift off to sleep, or even watch a movie during the session.
Dr. Guerin states, “I have been treating patients with DRX9000 Spinal Decompression for several years. I have seen many patients recover from disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, chronic low back pain, and stenosis when all else has failed. I strongly recommend that anyone with these conditions have a consultation to see if this approach is right for them before considering surgery."

"I first experienced severe lower back pain in July 2006. There didn’t appear to be any particular activity that caused the problem. After two MRIs, I was advised that I had severe stenosis of the lower spinal column, and was given medication to calm the pain. At the time, I could not work or lie down without severe pain. I had to sit in a recliner at a certain position in order to sleep. After a month, I was able to schedule an epidural at Norwalk Hospital. This provided immediate relief.
I was relatively pain free for two years, when I experienced another episode in June, 2008. The diagnosis this time was acute sciatica and again, was heavily medicated until I could get another epidural. With the epidural, I was once again relatively pain free. However, that lasted only three months until I again experienced a painful attack. This time I could hardly walk and, in fact, had to use a wheelchair to get around. A friend and patient of Dr. Guerin's recommended that I schedule a consultation, which I did.
Upon reviews of my previous MRIs, Dr. Guerin opined that I was a qualified candidate for treatment on the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression. After the first three or four treatments, I was relatively pain free and disposed of the cane I was using in order to walk. I am now in my fifth week of treatments and am completely pain free. I am even looking forward to spring when I feel I will be able to play golf again. I have practiced my swing when weather has permitted, and have done so without pain.
I highly recommend Dr. Guerin and the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression to anyone experiencing back pain. It has certainly helped me."

“I suffered for months with debilitating sciatic pain and nothing seemed to relieve it. I decided to try chiropractic care rather than pain medication or surgery. Dr. Guerin suggested a regiment including the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression treatment along with electrical stimulation and adjustments.
In just a few treatments, my pain was gone and has not come back. The DRX9000 Spinal Decompression was extremely comfortable and has become a relaxing part of my week that I look forward to.”
